The striker has now scored 40 goals in 28 league games this season. The first of those two goals saw him overtake the previous holder of the record, Peru international Claudio Pizarro -- formerly of Bayern, Werder Bremen and Cologne. Lewandowski is also the highest scoring non-German player in the history of the Bundesliga, a record he broke with two goals against Wolfsburg in March 2019. Lewandowski appears to be getting better with age, with the 32-year-old showing no sign of slowing down in the final third. However, his wife Uschi says the former Bayern and West Germany star would be happy for Lewandowski if his record is finally matched. Robert Lewandowski has equalled Gerd Muller's 49-year-old Bundesliga record for the most goals scored in a single campaign after he netted in Bayern Munich's draw with SC Freiburg. The prolific Bayern forward fired home from the penalty spot in the 26th minute to take his league goal tally to 40 for the season – the same amount of goals that Müller scored in the 1971/72 campaign.
